Terms of Service CTU-ILIAS

Please read and accept the Terms of Service (TOS). You agree that you will use this platform (hereinafter called «CTU-ILIAS») in compliance with these TOS, and all applicable local, national and international laws, rules and regulations, including copyright laws.

CTU-ILIAS is a non-public platform with the purpose to support training courses and postgraduate educational programs that are organized by the Clinical Trial Unit (CTU) at the Department of Clinical Research of the University of Basel.


Registration is only possible after personal invitation or acceptance by CTU personnel and requires the enrolment as a student in a course or postgraduate educational program or for teaching or administrative purposes. Admission to a course or postgraduate educational program may require several prerequisites that must be met according to course-specific regulations (Studiengangsreglement, Study Handbooks, Fact Sheets). Access to CTU-ILIAS does not automatically mean admission to a course or a postgraduate educational program.

Technical requirements

The following technical requirements for using CTU-ILIAS must be met:
  • Desktop-Computer or Notebook with a resolution of minimum 1040x800px.
  • Update version of Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Apple Safari or Microsoft Internet Explorer browser.
  • Update version of Adobe Flash Player browser plugin.
  • Internet connection.
The contents are not necessarily optimized for use on portable devices such as smartphones or tablets, so that no flawless presentation of the content can be guaranteed.


Your login information may not be shared with or transferred to other persons. Misusage of login information may lead to blocking of your account, may have consequences for your further participation in course or programs and may lead to further compensation claims.

Rights of use of CTU-ILIAS

You agree that you are responsible for your own use of CTU-ILIAS and for your “User Postings”. "User Postings" means all content that is submitted, posted, published, or distributed on CTU-ILIAS by you, including but not limited to all forum posts, wiki edits, notes, questions, comments, videos, and file uploads.

As a condition of your use of CTU-ILIAS, you may not obtain or attempt to obtain any materials or information stored on CTU-ILIAS, its servers, or associated computers through any means not intentionally made available through CTU-ILIAS. Furthermore, you agree not to scrape, or otherwise download in bulk, any CTU-ILIAS content, including but not limited to a list or directory of users on the system, User Postings or user information, online learning modules, course materials, or trademarks and logos.

The offered course contents are protected by copyright. You receive the non-exclusive, non-transferable and non-sublicensable right to use the information provided for personal use in accordance with copyright.

You are allowed to download content and store them exclusively for personal use on your own devices. In addition, downloads may not be altered in content, editorial or modified versions, copied to third parties, made available to the public or forwarded, posted on the Internet or in other networks for a fee or free of charge, imitated, printed out to resell or use for commercial purposes. Unless otherwise expressly stated in the course- or training material, the texts, exams, video, images, and other instructional materials provided are for your personal use in connection with the relevant courses or programs only.

CTU Basel is entitled to change, suspend or suspend the possibility of downloading at any time, temporarily or permanently.

Links to other websites

CTU-ILIAS may include hyperlinks to websites maintained or controlled by others. The CTU Basel is not responsible for and does not routinely screen, approve, review or endorse the contents of or use of any of the products or services that may be offered at these websites. If you decide to access linked third-party websites, you do so at your own risk.

Material and legal defects

We make every effort to guarantee a trouble-free usage of CTU-ILIAS. Interruptions may occur due to technical or human error, third party attacks, required maintenance, or force majeure. A temporary unavailability of CTU-ILIAS does not signify a breach of the contract on our part.

Period of validity

You are entitled to access to CTU-ILIAS and the content of your course for the duration of the enrolment in the respective course or degree program. Access may be extended by the CTU Basel.

Applicable law and place of jurisdiction

The legal relationships within the framework of CTU-ILIAS are subject to Swiss Substantive Law (schweizerisches materielles Recht). The exclusive place of jurisdiction for all disputes is Basel.
